After The Chocolate Half, hundreds of chocolate walked through the streets of Port Dalhousie in search of chocolate. Little Ironman got his chocolate ice cream, and I eventually got this certificate for my age group award.
If you’re like me, Hershey Kisses are a favorite treat. But watch how many you eat! Just eating 12 will add 300 calories and 18 grams of fat to your diet.
Here’s a healthier chocolaty treat – and your kiddos won’t even notice the good stuff in them (don’t tell my boys!)
Chocolate Brownies
1/3 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1/2 cup all-purpose flour
1/4 tsp. salt
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup baby prunes (I use strained prunes)
3 tbsp. butter, melted
2 egg whites
1 tsp. vanilla
1/4 cup chopped walnuts (optional – never tried them this way, never will)
Preheat oven to 325F.
Combine cocoa, flour, and salt in a small bowl. Set aside.
Blend sugar, prunes, butter, egg whites, and vanilla.
Gradually add the flour mixture and blend. Stir in walnuts.
Cook in an 8×8 baking pan with a non-stick spray. Bake for approximately 22 minutes (edges will be dry, centre seems fudgy).
Cool. Slice. Enjoy.
The stats: 12 servings, 145 calories each, 4.7 g. fat, 25.1g carbohydrates, 2.5g protein, 62mg sodium and 8mg cholesterol.
Sounds yummy!
mmmm brownies!
Wait – is that photo your certificate?? Um, hmm…. A small plaque would have been nice, no? But at least you were first! Now if only I ate chocolate I'd be all over those brownies!

Another great recipe! Love it. I'd probably drop the salt and use one whole egg rather than 2 egg whites … only cuz we eat eggs regularly and two yokes sitting in a bowl in the fridge die a slow and apathetic death!
