The I – List

It happened. I thought I was being careful. I was being careful, and I felt great. But the post-marathon trauma finally set in and I’m on the i-list.

Last Sunday, while on an easy 10 mile run, while on a downhill curve, I landed on my right foot the wrong way; my knee hurt instantly and the next day, walking was a challenge. I still ran twice (short) during the week, cycled and raced a fairly strong 5K on Sunday. Everything seemed okay until Monday morning when I was dust-panning the kitchen floor. “Oww!” Okay, so everything wasn’t fine after Sunday’s race. The next day, on Tuesday, I was at physio.

Now, it’s not a big deal. Well, that’s what I’m telling myself. My physiotherapist is also confident that I’ll be back on the road soon. But this is the first time that I’ve been told that I shouldn’t run in a long time. “For how long?” was the first thing I asked.

“Two to three weeks, but let’s take one week at a time.”

I think that’s encouraging as it does imply that I may be running in a week. And I want to be running in a week – for the Canada Day 5K race in Burlington.

And I can walk and ride, so I can keep my cardio up – in case I can race next Friday.

We’re taking one week at a time.
