“Happiness is not a matter of intensity but of balance, order, rhythm and harmony.” Thomas Merton
I was happy to not run this weekend – at all. Shocking, I know, but I needed time to do nothing.
Nothing, of course, is relative. When I did nothing, I cleaned out old toys (again), organized the basement, shopped for groceries, played with the boys, hemmed pants, and caught up on life: nothing. But it was the nothing that I needed. Besides, my knee is just a little bit sore.
On any typical weekend, I love my long runs (my time alone) and I love racing (running with my family and friends). Today, I had the opportunity to do both, and I passed.
Tomorrow, the pendulum will swing in the other direction and I’ll be on the road again. Then, it will come back to the centre and balance will be restored.
doing nothing or the relative “nothing” is just as important than doing. I truly think that rest is harder to do. So glad you had a great weekend!!!
I enjoyed a few extra days of some added nothing too. While I did run, I ran much less than normal. I was free to cook and bake and play with the kids. It was great! We even worked on uncluttering toys too.
