My Happy Place

I found my happy place.  I wasn’t looking for it.  In fact, I didn’t even realize that it was missing until I did find it and, now that I have, I’m holding onto it for as long as I can.

Sometime in the past few weeks, something “clicked” with my running.  Perhaps it was the 5K PB that I set a the Toronto Women’s race, when I almost got the 20:30 that I’m after this fall (missed it by 2 seconds).  Maybe it’s the stability of high mileage weeks and solid long runs for the past nine months.  Or maybe it’s the confidence that I’ve gained by running with kids who are less than half my age and being able to keep them in sight – for a while.

This has been a summer of setting new PB’s – on 15K, 10 miles, and 5K.  I’m proud of them.  My times in training are also dropping and I get home so wired that I have trouble falling asleep at night.  I like my happy space.

Despite a few emotional upsets along the way, I’ve come to a great spot in running.  I’m looking forward to a the Niagara Half-Marathon at the end of October, the Ontario Masters cross-country season and a few more races that I have tucked up my sleeve.  I can’t wait to see how the cross-country team that I’m coaching at school does and am eager to work with the Couch to 5K group this fall.  I’m excited about feeling powerful again and being able to share my love for running with others.

The best part of finding my happy place is it’s everywhere: home, school, in the car, on the street…All I have to do is pull it out and everything starts to shine.

This is my spot and I like it.
